Documenting Russia\u2019s war of aggression against Ukraine has become a life\u2019s work for the man from Bamberg. The photojournalist has been visiting the combat zone in Donbas regularly since 2017. Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he has been traveling to Ukraine on a monthly basis up to the present day. With his camera he accompanies people through this dark time: from the hinterland to the frontline positions. His reports appear in numerous daily newspapers and magazines. He has received multiple awards for his reporting.\u201c<\/p>\n

Alongside the book \u2018Resistance – Ukraine\u2019s Fight for Freedom\u2019 there is a traveling exhibition of the same name, which is being updated regularly with new photos.<\/p>\n

Then the full-scale invasion started on 24 February 2022. The photo features in the book ‘Europe’s Front – War in Ukraine’ (ibidem-Verlag) document Russia\u2019s war of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The Bamberg-based photojournalist travels across all of Ukraine to portray people in wartime: from the hinterland to the front lines. The black-and-white images and texts tell of bravery, flight, grief, resistance, death, but also of hope and courage. The previously published volumes ‘Donbas – Europe’s Forgotten War’ and ‘Ukraine – Europe’s War’ (both Erich Wei\u00df Verlag) are no longer available in stores.<\/p>\n

There is a farmer from Kongo, who lost his leg due to the detonation of a grenade. The elderly woman from a village close to the trenches in the Eastern Ukraine. Almost only aged people remained stayed there. Or a girl in Iraq, who lost her leg, her brother and her mother, because fighters laid booby\u00a0traps in her home town of Mosul.<\/p>\n

The detonations of bombs and grenades shatter for a lifetime.<\/p>\n

A depressing story, which at the same time gives hope.<\/p>\n

These donations guarantee the continuation of the Red Cross nurses\u2019 work in Lviv, Ukraine. This means, the pensioners living in poverty will not be let down. The film \u201cWinter in Lviv\u201d is in the main focus of this campaign. The film was made by Till Mayer (director & camera) with Pirmin Styrnol (director), Hendrik Steffens (camera & cut), Maik Styrnol (music, sound & web-design) and Dustin Hemmerlein (camera & cut). \u201cWinter in Lviv\u201d won the Coburg Media Award 2018 and was elected \u201cBest Documentary\u201d, both at the film festival \u201cReact Short Film Festival\u201d (Italy) and \u201cPorto7\u201d (Portugal).<\/p>\n
